Dead and Gone

Dang! It's so easy to forget the past (B.C.=Before Christ) and the struggles you came out of. Over 15 years ago at age 19 I was shackled hand and foot in the Los Angeles County Jail Blood Module. Jesus became to me like a warm "Downy Smelling" towel, fresh out of the dryer. He was my initial introduction to "real Christianity"! It seems like I still get it wrong when I get my eyes off him. Like the other day I was trying to get to work early by following my G1 cell phone navigation system. But, like a dummy I misinterpreted the map and decided to put the phone away and just drive off the top of my head.

After circling around for 15 minutes I decided to take another peak at the phone. The satellite map locator showed me that I was way off. Jesus is that satellite map locator! Amen! He not only tells you how to get there, but He shows you where you are on the journey. That is why it is important to check in with him constantly through prayer and silent reflection. Especially when you start feeling lost and tired in life. This song by TI and Justin Timberlake is about the journey of life and getting home. But like the title reads: "DEAD AND GONE", you cannot change your future, without letting go of your past. With Christ you can crucify sin, bad memories, and your human inabilities to fulfill His plan. Chorus reads:

Oooo, hey I've been travelin' on this road to long
Just trying to find my way back home
The old me is dead and gone… dead and gone…
Ooooooo I ve been travelin' on this road to long
Just trying to find my way back home
The old me is dead and gone… dead and gone… eeyy

As me and my boys were listening to this song yestarday; they began asking me to interpret what TI and Justin meant at certain points. They really like the song (radio version). Especially the melody! The basic theme they got from TI testimony is that when we travel off the path of relationship and righteousness towards God and suffer the consequence (For TI it was jail) there is a place for us to return. That returning is conditioned on "true repentance". TI raps that, Justin sings that, and we have to live that. It's good to know that TI like me learned his great lesson of life. I pray that these truths would be tattooed on my sons hearts very young. Will you embedded them on yours? God loves you: repent, receive and rejoice today!
