Dr. Dobson Voting Republican?
I think Christians should be involved in politics due the example of the Old Testament prophets and the plain exhortation of Paul to submit to governing authorities when their laws don't violate Holy Script (Romans 13:1-4).
But, truthfully! I am trying to figure out as to why evangelicals like Dr. Dobson feel that the current republican party is more for the "faith" than lets say democratic, independent, or libertarian party.
How can any POLITICAL PARTY represent the faith accurately or comprehensibly? The Christian faith is much more holistic and demanding in its kingdom values and social ethics then both parties represent (Matthew 5-7).
Yet both parties reflect aspects of God's nature and will through their worldviews and policies. No one can deny as one sister in an email declared, "that the former administration has left our country in economic despair". Even McCain acknowledges that and to some degree has distanced himself from President Bush.
I just think we need to think more holistically about social justice from a Biblical perspective and analyze both candidates by God's prescriptions. A truly unbiased analysis should leave Christians somewhere in the middle, I believe.
Christians should form an independent party in order to be truly loyal to a Christian New testament worldview and principles of justice, love and fruitful action (work, speaking, etc).We cannot give our loyalties to human institutions and political parties above the PERSON OF JESUS CHRIST. "He is above all heavenly and earthly ruler and in Him all things exist" as Paul declared.
