One Minute I Feel Happy, The Next Sad

So many times we feel such deep distress that we don't know how to express it. I find myself feeling this way during these moments of my life. Sometimes in life we end up in situations we never dreamed of. It is hard finding solace from humans. Even though we have a lot of friends and family around it still seems like we needSo many times we feel such deep distress that we don't know how to express it.

I find myself feeling this way during these moments of my life. Sometimes in life we end up in situations we never dreamed of. It is hard finding solace from humans. Even though we have a lot of friends and family around it still seems like we need GOD our Father.

We need God, like human words can't express. Facebook chats, prayer meetings, Blockbuster hits, church services and accountability partners leave us empty. I can sense David's frustration and emptiness in this Psalm:

Pslam 42
As the deer pants for streams of water,so my soul pants for you, O God. 2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.When can I go and meet with God? 3 My tears have been my food day and night, while men say to me all day long,"Where is your God?" 4 These things I remember as I pour out my soul:how I used to go with the multitude, leading the procession to the house of God,with shouts of joy and thanksgiving among the festive throng.
5 Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me?Put your hope in God,for I will yet praise him,my Savior and 6 my God.
My soul is downcast within me;therefore I will remember you from the land of the Jordan, the heights of Hermon--from Mount Mizar. 7 Deep calls to deep in the roar of your waterfalls;all your waves and breakers have swept over me.
8 By day the LORD directs his love,at night his song is with me--a prayer to the God of my life.
9 I say to God my Rock,"Why have you forgotten me?Why must I go about mourning, oppressed by the enemy?" 10 My bones suffer mortal agony as my foes taunt me,saying to me all day long,"Where is your God?"
11 Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me?Put your hope in God,for I will yet praise him,my Savior and my God.

I think the upcoming youtube video of the Muslim Psalmist is powerful. He does a great job in capturing what we feel at times by the use of some natural analogies. Despite ones religious or cultural affiliation all humans are created in the image of God and are able to capture and articulate such moments so clearly and beautifully. It almost leaves you in awe of God's "creation". God has created such deep, creative and emotional human beings. Let your self feel and express yourself too (song, journal, prayer, rap, poetry, etc)!

Brother and Sister, be of good courage right now as you read. As I go through my moments of disparity I keep having to remember that God has put this burden on me, so I can feel what so many billions are feeling at some moment in time. I remember the powerful words of Peter the Apostle:

1 Peter 4:12-14
12 Dear friends, do not be surprised at the painful trial you are suffering, as though something strange were happening to you. 13 But rejoice that you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed.

Christ sufferings were not just wrapped up in the betrayal and execution process of the cross, but also in the loss of a good friend named Lazarus (John 11:35), compassion for the impoverished crowds (Matt 14:14), sorrow for a lonely widow whose son just died (Luke 7:12), frustration with the priest concerning a handicapped woman in a synagogue (Luke 13:16) , fear concerning the future of Israel due to their rejection of Him (Luke 23:28-31) and much more. In fact the Bible describes Jesus as a "Man of SORROWS, familiar with SUFFERING" (Isaiah 53:3). That is why it reads in Hebrews:

Hebrews 4:14-16
15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are-yet was without sin. 16 Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

In your ups and downs during this crazy, hectic holiday season remember that Jack Hakimian understands. If him as a human being suffers and has a tiny ounce of compassion, how much more does Jesus love me, having suffered in His human flesh a 1000 times more. Please pray and talk to Him as if He sits in the room at your side. Because He does!
He loves you so, so much. Stop caring all your burdens and complexity of issues in your heart. Lay them at His feet.

1 Peter 5:6-7
6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. 7 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

Much love, Pastor Jack
